Call for Papers (2026): Ver.3 (251209)
Venue: Hokutopia (meaning "Northern Utopia" in Kita Ward, Tokyo), Access: Oji Station, Kita Ward, Tokyo
# Conference Overview
ICAITD 2026 welcomes submissions on the latest AI technologies.
Among these, the most prominent are research on methods for instructing and completing AI research by AI agents and research on automated paper writing using LLM agents and evaluating their completion. In October 2025, a conference Agents4Science led by the Stanford University AI Advanced Research Group was held on research into AI agent paper writing. Furthermore, in spring 2025, two papers written by AI scientists were accepted at the ICLR Workshop. Below is an invited talk detailing the status of the papers.

AI-driven scientific research refers to an artificial intelligence system autonomously carrying out scientific research, including hypothesis generation, experiments, data analysis, and paper writing.
Ideally, AI would conduct all research autonomously. However, currently, many errors are found during verification, making human verification of AI research results necessary. If corrections are no longer necessary after verification, it would be a groundbreaking example of successful autonomous AI research.
In this context, as AI-driven research is about to bring about a paradigm shift, we also broadly invite the following papers: papers on successful examples of autonomous AI research driven by AI, papers on research in which humans have verified and corrected errors in AI research, papers on research utilizing AI-driven automated research support functions, etc. This is because these topics are an emerging field, and there are many different approaches and methods for working with AI, so we look forward to researchers' ingenuity and new proposals.
In 2026, we will introduce the following sessions:
(1) "Research on methods for instructing and completing AI research by AI agents" or
"Research on automated paper writing using LLM agents and evaluating its completion"
This will be a unique international conference. Unlike traditional international conferences, ICAITD will provide continuous feedback to authors from the peer review stage through publication, aiming to refine their research, encourage constructive questioning, and increase the value of their knowledge. Our goal is to support researchers' activities and promote discussions that will provide meaningful insights into the direction of research.
In addition to technical discussions on AI, ICAITD 2026 will emphasize the importance of a sociological perspective, particularly given the rapidly expanding impact of AI. Social scientists have pointed out the importance of considering AI's social impact and interactions with humans, and engineers must also address these challenges. Therefore, in addition to technical papers, we welcome submissions that promote cutting-edge discussions on AI and business applications.
# Session Structure: We are currently preparing three sessions, but other sessions are also welcome. We are accepting proposals for new sessions.
Session 1: We welcome all research projects incorporating AI agents. For example,
"Research into methods for instructing and completing AI research by AI agents."
In spring 2025, an AI agent autonomously and automatically conducted research based on researchers' research summary information, generating a workshop-level paper accepted by ICLR.
https://arxiv.org/abs/2504.08066
This system realizes AI-driven autonomous scientific discovery, with the agent performing hypothesis generation, experiment design, and result interpretation under human direction.
We are seeking groundbreaking results in AI-driven research, whether fully or partially automated. For example, the accepted paper above promoted and integrated the research using a step-by-step approach: research topic conception → experiment design → hyperparameter setting → ablation research → random number experiment → paper writing. Because building the entire system requires a tremendous amount of effort, we also welcome research on its components. In this case, please accurately describe the novelty and originality of each component. In addition to conducting research, we also welcome papers on logical analysis of existing papers, error/plagiarism detection, and peer review functions. Given the rapid increase in new methods and tools, we also invite review papers analyzing AI scientists. Review papers should include the latest information and provide in-depth analysis and insight.
Another example is "Research on automated paper writing using LLM agents and evaluating their completion."
We welcome research that utilizes LLM agents to complete research papers. For the scope of ICAITD2026, research must be AI-related. However, since LLM agents themselves are AI-related, this could also be included. As mentioned at the beginning of this article, a cutting-edge group centered around Stanford University held a conference on the creation of AI-written research papers in October 2025. That conference was open to the public and was not limited to AI. The call for papers also included AI-written papers that had undergone human editing and revision. Manual editing and revision are optional, and peer review will be conducted to the same standards as standard papers that do not use LLM agents. Therefore, various hallucinations and AI-specific errors will result in significant deductions in the evaluation score. Authors are encouraged to conduct careful verification of all parts of their paper.
Session 2: AI and Ethics
Papers on sociological and advanced concepts: Examining the social impact of AI, regulatory and management challenges, political implications, and ethical considerations. While the importance and necessity of ethics are widely recognized, it is crucial to consider conflicting challenges such as the separation or integration of ethics from technological development, and concerns that regulatory compliance may lead to development delays and losses.

(Note) OpenReview has various settings. ICAITD 2026 will be operated in accordance with the OpenReview configuration, but details of the settings will be revealed in the future. Peer reviews will basically be open, but there will be a single-blind, private section, and reviewer names will be coded or anonymized.
New Submissions to ICAITD 2026
Please follow the instructions below.
Template:
A sample manuscript is available at Sample_paper.
Please refer to the sample manuscript Sample_paper and, in principle, create it in a similar format.
Please submit your paper in the same format regardless of the paper category (Full Paper, Position Paper, Workshop Paper). For poster presentations, please submit an abstract (approximately 1-2 pages).
Note: The ICAITD conference encourages clear disclosure of each author's role in the academic contribution to ensure transparency and fairness.
Example:
Author Contributions:
The authors contributed to this research in the following ways: A. Designing the research concept and supervising the research; B. Developing the methodology and conducting the experiments; C. Analyzing the data and writing the manuscript. All authors reviewed and approved the final version.
Submission Process: Deadline; Peer Review; Notification of Results; Registration; Payment; Publication; Proceedings Author Publication Agreement; Publication
Review Request:
We will ask each author to review approximately two papers, so we understand your busy schedules and ask that you please take the time to do so. We will also conduct peer reviews using AI, which will be combined with the results of human reviewers to make a comprehensive judgment.
Reviewers should be aware that the submitted version of the paper they review will not be made public forever and must not be made public.
Note: The ICAITD conference encourages clear disclosure of each author's role in the academic contribution to ensure transparency and fairness.

#Copyright Transfer: After presentation at ICAITD 2026 and before final proceedings publication, authors will be asked to grant the publisher only exclusive publishing rights. Therefore, the author retains the substantive copyright. Approval will be given digitally, involving co-authors as needed.
Papers submitted to ICAITD 2026 in OpenReview will be published as Open access under the CC-BY-ND 4.0 license. ND (No Derivative Works) means that others cannot modify your paper, but you, as the copyright holder, have the right to modify and publish it. For authors, you also have a CC-BY 4.0 license. Others can copy and cite parts of your paper in their own papers, provided they clearly indicate this in the references (author name, title, etc.).
ICAITD 2026 operates Open Access for the proceedings of papers, providing exclusive access for the fastest publication, and we ask that you act in accordance with this policy. One reason for this is that a paper may be rejected, making it impossible for anyone other than the authors to publish it. Even if a paper is accepted, the public release date will be approximately one month after the conference, and only the final version will be made public. The initial submitted version will be made available as a preprint to demonstrate the process. The submitted version cannot be made public as a separate paper, so please refrain from making it public. Furthermore, if a paper is rejected, only the authors are permitted to publish it as a preprint or in other media, or resubmit it.
(In patent applications, the point in time at which research ideas and results were developed is an important point of precedence, so a confirmed record of the submission and publication dates is important.)
Single-Blind Peer Review
Regarding single-blind review:
In Japan, the Journal of the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence changed from double-blind to single-blind peer review in 2023.
ICAITD 2026 will adopt a single-blind review process, referencing this example. While author names are hidden, in many papers, the author's name can often be inferred from the content. Conversely, concealing author names leads to significant administrative work after acceptance, such as adding author names, adding references, and revising citations, which we are concerned will negatively impact the research. Therefore, we have opted for a single-blind review process and will address this by incorporating many objective indicators in the evaluation. For example, we have eliminated subjective evaluation items such as similarity of field, relevance to the scope, and readability as much as possible.
Manuscripts submitted by the deadline that are excessively long (over 30 pages) or contain formatting errors may be subject to revision requests as a condition for conditional acceptance.
We prioritize the objective evaluation of novelty or originality above all else. Therefore, please describe the novelty or originality in detail. Describe them from multiple perspectives, including the abstract, main text, results, and conclusions, and do not hesitate to include overlapping descriptions.
Because we employ an absolute evaluation system, the number of accepted papers may fluctuate or increase. If an increase occurs, we will handle it by adjusting venue arrangements, etc. Also, due to venue and schedule constraints, as the number of presentations approaches 50, we will gradually implement submission restrictions (waiting list). If a significant increase is expected, we may close submissions. We ask for your understanding and request that you carefully plan your submission.
Use of Generative AI: Permitted in principle for all sessions and categories. Generative AI paper sessions are also fully permitted.
Policy on the Use of AI Tools in Manuscript Preparation
This conference does not prohibit the use of AI language models (e.g., ChatGPT, etc.), AI agents, AI scientists, etc., in manuscript preparation.
However, authors must comply with the following:
• The novelty, originality, and research contribution of this paper must be clearly stated and entirely attributable to the author(s).
• All AI-generated content must be reviewed, verified, and edited by the author(s), who bear full responsibility for its accuracy and appropriateness.
• If AI tools are used, their use must be disclosed transparently (e.g., in the acknowledgments or methodology section).
• Whether or not AI is used, the generation/modification of research data/experimental results or fabricated citations are strictly prohibited. If false data, manipulation of research data/experimental results, or plagiarism is discovered, the paper will be subject to serious penalties. Therefore, please ensure that there are no falsehoods, errors, or typos whatsoever. Especially when using generative AI, authors are required to carefully check for hallucinations, rewriting of figures and tables, or replacement of experiments. Please disclose as much data and methods as possible to the extent possible that readers can replicate your experiments. In particular, for simulation experiments, please disclose as much information as possible about the program code and operating environment so that readers can fully replicate your experiments.
The peer review process focuses on the originality and novelty of the research, regardless of whether AI tools were used for text generation, editing, or the main research. Research using generative AI may involve detailed experiments, so please provide as much information as possible about the data, program code, environment, etc. so that reviewers can perform identical experiments. Peer review takes time, so if verification is difficult, the research may be put on hold and not accepted.
All authors and co-authors must be real people; AI, fictional characters, or other entities are not permitted. However, the use of a stage name, alias, or commonly used name in place of the real name is permitted.
#Paper Acceptance Notification: For early submissions (until the end of April 2026), acceptance results (accepted, conditionally accepted, rejected) will be notified within 3 months of submission. For submissions requiring conditional revisions, results will be notified within 1 month of re-submission. For submissions from May 1 to June 1, 2026, results will be notified within 2 months.
For submissions from June 2 to August 1, 2026, results for new submissions will be announced within 2 months, and results for revised re-submissions will be announced within 1.5 months.
The deadline for all submissions, including revisions, is September 15, 2026.
Best Paper Award
The best paper will be selected by the members of the Technical Program Committee from among the general papers presented at ICAITD 2026. However, if there are no suitable candidates, no best paper will be selected. Even if many excellent papers are submitted and the review is difficult, the number of best papers is limited, and they may be selected by chance methods such as a lottery.
Important Notes Regarding Online Participation:
There is a time difference between the online presentation time and the local time of the conference location, and online presenters may have to present in the evening, late night, or early morning. Please consider this when planning your submission and participation.
Conference Venue: Japan Time 9:30 ~ 17:30 (GMT+9)
In Europe, due to the -8-hour time difference with Japan, the presentation time will be from 1:30 AM to 9:30 AM.
